Essential Oils

For those of you who have been hesitant to buy essential oils, I get it. They are costly, and you may be skeptical of whether or not they really work. Some say it’s all in the head, but even if it does trick my brain into thinking something is better, then so be it. I haven’t done a great deal of research and I am still much an amateur in using them. BUT my sister has used them for years as you see her box in the pictures, she has many. There are various oils and blends for immune health, skin, meditation/relaxation, and even digestion. I interviewed ole Jess on what she would consider her 5 favorite oils and I will share my personal experiences as well.

Jessica picked: Marjoram, Rosemary, Peppermint, Lavender, and Patchouli.

Marjoram- My sister is all about the good earthy smells of her oils. This one   she describes as a woody scent and she uses it on her neck and shoulders to dissolve tension and in the bath for relaxation.

Rosemary-Fresh clean scent and great for headaches, sinus pressure or stuffy nose

Peppermint- We both use it for SO much. Mint in all of history has been a beloved, refreshing scent and many use it for alertness as well. But even more than that can relieve a stuffy nose, and alleviates pain such as headaches, muscle cramps, tension, an upset stomach or gas.

Lavender- also has a crazy number of uses. Lavender is another one of those classic scents and the first thought of it, regardless of essential oils, is that of relaxation and comfort. Jess mixes this in her Epsom salt baths and we both use it as a sleep aid. She has also used lavender for burns, as an insect repellent (it’s nice because you don’t get the chemical component or stickiness of bug spray), on actual bug bites, and it disinfects open sores or cuts.

Patchouli –she loves this one because it smells earthy, and makes her feel grounded. This is good for skin and has relaxation/stress relieving qualities. Jess actually uses this as her perfume and it is better than any bottle you can buy—she always smells so good. It doesn’t choke you out and it also enhances mood . . .who couldn’t use a little of that every morning?

My picks:

Peace is a blend carried by doTerra and just as it suggests, it’s to relieve stress, anxiety and bring you peace. I LOVE this. This works especially well for test anxiety for any college gals/guys that may be reading.

Not pictured*** Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint- a couple of drops in water really help to open a stuffy nose and great for allergy and sinus issues. This absolutely got me through my vacation this summer; I used this twice or three times a day (every morning and afternoon) and was actually able to enjoy my trip.

Clary Sage + Peppermint- LISTEN UP GIRLS. The only thing that gets me through my period. I have pretty rough cramps almost every period and I rub both of these on my abdomen and pant line and it’s like magic. It hits both the pain aspect and mood enhancing.

***I am not a specialist or guru on any of this, these are simply mine and sista’s own ideas. I am only sharing OUR experience in using essential oils in the last 4+ years. We buy through doTerra but there are tons of other brands out there with blends that may work best for you. For Jessica, these have truly changed her life in terms of health and wellness. Those that I have purchased so far have done wonders for me as well! Hope you enjoyed!
